In a method for separating a gas mixture by separation at sub-ambient temperature, a gas mixture under a first pressure is cooled then separated in a separation unit, a liquid is withdrawn from the separation unit and evaporated to form a gaseous product under pressure, part of the gas mixture is condensed by heat exchange with the evaporated liquid, the condensation flow rate being less than 35% greater than the evaporation flow rate, and at least part of the condensed part of the gas mixture is undercooled by indirect heat exchange with the cold source of at least one heat pump using the magnetocaloric effect.
