<p>Carbon disulphide is recovered from industrial effluent waters by blowing the carbon disulphide out of the waters with air or other gases, and extracting the carbon disulphide from the current of air or gas by treatment with wash oils or adsorbent media such as active carbon or silica gel. The current of gas employed may be the outgoing air of the spinning or washing baths of the rayon industry or, alternatively an inert gas such as nitrogen or producer or combustion gases may be employed. The contact of liquid and gas is preferably effected in counter-current in a spray tower. If the air or gas after contact with the liquid also contains acidic gases such as hydrogen sulphide or sulphur dioxide, these may be eliminated by washing with basic chemical liquids or with water. The carbon disulphide may be recovered from the wash oils or adsorbent media by treatment with steam, preferably after displacing the air in the adsorbers with an inert gas.</p> |
