Disclosed are a storage medium for storing and playing image data, and playing apparatus and method thereof. The method for storing image data according to the present invention comprises the steps of: encoding image data including at least one group of picture (GOP); and storing additional information of the image data, wherein at least one GOP includes a frame I, multiple frame P, and multiple frame B, and the encoding step encodes in sequence of a frame I, multiple frame P, and multiple frame B. Accordingly, a playing apparatus performs high speed play of image in various rates.
