[Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] Disazo dyes are produced in substance or on. the fibre by tetrazotizing a symmetrical diamine of the formula wherein at least one pair of X's represents a. pair of alkyl groups and each of the other pairs represents a pair of hydrogen atoms or a pair of substituents such as a pair of halogen atoms or of nitro, alkyl, aralkyl, alkoxy or aralkoxy groups, and coupling with an arylamide of a. hydroxycarboxylic acid having the hydroxy and carboxylic groups attached to adjacent carbon atoms, e.g. an arylamide of 2:3-hydroxynaphthoic, 2-hydroxycarbazole-3-carboxylic or acetoacetic acid. In examples the following dyestuffs are produced on cotton yarn by impregnating the yarn in an aqueous solution. containing the coupling component, caustic soda, turkey red oil and formaldehyde and developing in an aqueous solution containing the tetrazo component, sodium nitrite, hydrochloric acid and sodium acetate, (1) 2:2<SP>1</SP>:5:5<SP>1</SP>- tetramethyl - 4:4<SP>1</SP> - diaminodiphenyl disulphide- <SP>#</SP># Naphthol AS/TR; (2) 2:2<SP>1</SP>-dichloro-5:5<SP>1</SP>- dimethyl - 4:4<SP>1</SP> - diaminodiphenyl disulphide<SP>#</SP># Naphthol AS/SG; (3) 5:5<SP>1</SP>-dimethyl-4:4<SP>1</SP>-diaminodiphenyl disulphide <SP>#</SP># Naphthol AS(TRSpecifications 6379/12, [Class 2 (iii)], and 17279/13, [Class 15 (ii)], are referred to. 4:41-Diaminodiphenyl disulphides as above are obtained by heating with an aqueous alkali hydroxide the corresponding 4-thiocyanoaniline derivatives obtainable by the processes described in Specifications 513,473 and 514,203. |
