摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool having excellent fracture resistance and wear resistance.SOLUTION: In a surface-coated cutting tool having a hard coating layer formed by physical vapor deposition on a surface of a tool substrate, the hard coating layer is composed of a composite carbonitride layer or a composite nitride layer with an average layer thickness of 0.5-8.0 μm that is represented by the composition formula: (AlCrSi)(NC). The hard coating layer contains metal particles with a sectional major axis of 0.05-0.5 μm in which 90 atom% or more of constituent elements are metal elements, and the metal particles are dispersed and distributed in a longitudinal sectional area ratio of 3-10% in the hard coating layer. When a longitudinal sectional area ratio of the metal particles, which satisfies such conditions that 50 atom% or more of constitute elements are Al, and an aspect ratio of a longitudinal sectional shape is 2.0 or more and an acute angle formed by the sectional major axis and the surface of the tool substrate is 45° or less, is assumed to be A% and a longitudinal sectional area ratio of the other particles is assumed to be B%, 0.3≤A/(A+B) is satisfied.
