An evacuation mattress system comprising a rectangular base to support a mattress, a mattress to support a load, a cover 80 which can enclose the base and mattress with an opening 82 to facilitate access to the base and a plurality of straps which can extend around the base and have a hand hold 50 which can be accessible from the opening 82. The base may have a channel to receive the mattress and further straps may be provided to extend widthways around the base and mattress. A hand hold retention means may be provided to hold the hand hold 50 in a stored configuration within the cover. The cover 80 may be waterproof and the mattress memory foam. Also disclosed are straps which can extend around a base and have a hand hold 50. In use the hand hold 50 can be accessed through the opening 82 and used to drag the mattress out of a building in an emergency. |
