PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tire of which workability, low fuel cost, rubber strength and abrasion resistance are improved in a good balance, and to provide a pneumatic tire using the same.SOLUTION: A rubber composition for a tire contains a rubber constituent, silica, a silane coupling agent containing a mercapto group, and a polysulfide compound represented by the formula (I) and/or (II).
