A tipper comprises a tipper body 8 pivotable on a frame 6 and lifted by a hydraulic ram cylinder 14. When the tipper body 8 is lifted the vehicle becomes taller. The height H of the vehicle can be calculated from knowledge of the angle of the hydraulic ram 14 or the angle of the tipper body 8. The calculated height H may indicate that the tipper has reached a height threshold and so may provide an audio or visual alert, or may return the tipper to a resting position. Display 54 can be touchscreen or an array of coloured LEDs. Inclination sensors (44, fig 3) mounted to the ram measure the fore-aft tilt angle of the hydraulic cylinder. Inclination of the tipper body can be measured by mounting the sensors to the tipper body. Sensors include rotary position sensors measuring the angle of the ram or the tipper body. |
