A multi-electrode patch 150 for abdominal electrophysiological detection comprises a flexible substrate 100 interconnecting a plurality of electrodes 1-5 and a module unit 16 for removably engaging with an electronic readout device for detecting fetal electrophysiological signals from the electrodes, wherein the module unit comprises a mechanical means for removable mechanical engagement with a housing of the readout device, and an electrical connection between the electrodes and the readout device, wherein engaging the patch with the readout device comprises engaging both the mechanical means and the electrical connection. The electrode may comprise a plurality of biocompatible needles, configured to penetrate the stratum corneum of the abdomen of a pregnant human. The position of each electrode may be adjustable by deforming the flexible substrate. The signals detected may be at least one of fetal heart rate, fetal ECG, maternal heart rate, maternal, ECG and uterine activity. The patch may be stuck to the subject such that the subject can stand and move around freely. |
