The invention relates to a ground power unit for supplying power to an aircraft parked on the ground, the ground power unit comprising an engine and an electric generator for supplying power to the aircraft, whereby the electric generator is configured to be driven by the engine, an electric energy reservoir, which is set up for being charged by an output of the generator and set up for temporarily providing electric power to the aircraft, an inverter for transforming an output of the energy reservoir to an alternating power output of the inverter, wherein the engine is a gaseous-fueled engine. The invention further relates to a method for operating such a ground power unit. |
