发明名称 Improvements in or relating to magnetic recording apparatus
摘要 561,758. Typewriters. BRITISH TABULATING MACHINE CO., Ltd. Nov. 27, 1942, No. 16903. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1941. [Class 100 (iv)] [Also in Group XIX] Electromagnets selectively energized are moved into contact with a magnetizable strip to record data thereon by magnetic impressions. The magnets are selected by the keyboard of a cash register A which prints corresponding data on the strip. The strip 50, Fig. 3, is wound from a supply roll 60 and over idler rollers 61, past the printing station 62, the magneticrecording station 63, idler 64 and feed roller 65 to take-up roller 66. The strip 50 may be of the kind shown by Specification No. 515,183, [Group XIX], and consists of a paper base coated with iron powder or filings mixed with an adhesive binder and covered with paper suitable for printing upon. The keys 20, Fig. 2, when depressed with a motor bar, cause the motor-driven cam-shaft 24 to make one complete rotation, during which the actuator 26 is rocked by spring 27 until stopped by the end of a key or a zero stop and the indicator segment 29 is rotated to adjust the indicator wheel 38 through gearing 33, 36. The cam-shaft 24 also meshes with a gear-wheel 42 and thence an idler wheel 43 forming a connection to the separate and detachable recording unit B. In this unit, the main shaft 68 has a wheel 67, meshing with idler wheel 43 of unit A, and a mutilated wheel 69 engaging the wheel 72 on the shaft 73 of feed roller 65. Shaft 73 also carries a gear-wheel in mesh with idler 76 and gear-wheel 78 on a shaft 79 carrying friction rolls 81 engaging the take-up roller 66. The rotation of shaft 24 thus advances the strip a predetermined amount by roller 65 and winds up the slack on roller 66. The main shaft 68 carries a cam 95 engaging a roller 94 on arm 93 which is pivoted to one end of a lever 90 on shaft 92, the other end being connected to the member 87 carrying the magnets 85. Shaft 68 has a second cam actuating the ink-ribbon feed and a third cam engaging a roller on an arm pivoted to one end of a. lever 118 also on shaft 92, the other end 119 having a striking engagement with a stud 121 on lever 123 carried on shaft 92. This lever 123 at its other end carries a rubber platen and periodically causes it to force the strip 50 against the type segments, 115, each segment rotating on shaft 110 and having teeth 112 engaging the wheels 36 so as to be set in agreement with the indicator wheels 38. The platen at the recording station 63 consists of a plate 96 of soft iron extending beyond the area of the magnetic impressions. The member 87 carries a group of magnets 85 in vertical columns each of four magnets, each column.corresponding in code and position with its printed mark. The magnets 85 in each column are connected to contacts 100, shown in Fig. 11, which represents the setting for zero. These contacts, with the supply contact 102, are engaged by arms 105 of a segment 106 fixed to an insulating strip 107 mounted on a ring 108 carried by a sleeve around shaft 110, each sleeve being fixed to its corresponding type segment. The magnets are also connected through a condenser 150 to make-and-break contacts 140, 141 actuated by cams 143 on the shaft 68, contacts 140 serving to connect the condensers to charging circuits and contacts 141 serving to connect the charged condensers momentarily to the magnets 85.
