The present invention relates to the use of polyphosphate in crystalline form for treatment of wounds, especially bleeding wounds, wherein the anion of the polyphosphate has a (numerical) average of at least 4 phosphorus atoms per polyphosphate anion. The invention additionally relates to a composition suitable for treatment of wounds, especially bleeding wounds, comprising an inventive polyphosphate and a carrier material.
