A food canister provided with a cover assembly that when mounted on the canister body creates an airtight engagement thereon and vacuum within the canister body, keeping the food contained therein free from insects and other contaminants and keeping the freshness of the food therein. The cover assembly is provided a traversing channel wherein an activating lever is disposed to conveniently lock and unlock it from the canister body.
