The present invention relates to an annular purification receptacle reactor for the purification of wastewaters, including septic tank effluent. The invention also relates to a substantially horizontal, shallow, annular receptacle that is usually used in a stacked assembly of receptacles, arranged so wastewater enters, flows around, and exits each receptacle by gravity, before flowing into the next underneath receptacle and so on down the assembly. The following wastewater removal processes can occur during the wastewater's assembly travel: (i) biofilms growing in some receptacles remove organic carbon and nitrogen, (ii) granular media deposited in other receptacles filter out suspended contaminants, and (iii) adsorption media deposited in some other receptacles adsorb specific Contaminants. Each receptacle has fittings to accommodate air, liquid and media ports that facilitate aeration, step-feeding, biofilm-flushing, and media transfer. The receptacle assemblage furnishes all necessary reactor tankage. Purification upgrading is simply achieved by stacking additional receptacles onto the assembly. <Figure 1> |
