The hollow roller (1) has a steam supply channel (22) that opens into the interior (13) of a roller shell (2), and coaxial with a centre longitudinal axis (5). A siphon pipe (14) opens into the interior of the roller shell, and having a suction opening (24) that is located adjacent to the inner wall (25) of the roller shell. The siphon pipe (14) is rigidly formed and held in a rotary feed-through (16), and pivotable relative to the centre longitudinal axis about a pivot angle, such that the spacing of the suction opening from the inner wall is adjustable.
