PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the production cost caused by raw materials or equipment investment is very high or an organic hydroxy gel having developed pores can not be efficiently produced from the problems of reactivity of raw materials or the like, in conventional arts, thereby, an organic hydroxy gel or carbon gel in which pores are highly developed is not provided by any of the conventional arts.SOLUTION: A carbon material is obtained by polymerizing a phenol compound and an aldehyde compound in a water-organic solvent mixed solution, and carbonizing the resulting polymer after drying. The carbon material is characterized by carbonizing an organic hydroxy gel obtained by performing polymerization using a weak basic catalyst as a catalyst during polymerization at 60-120°C under such a condition that the ratio of the organic solvent in the water-organic solvent is 25 to 55 mass%. |
