A method for obtaining a motion vector associated with a pixel (210) of an image (11) temporally surrounded by a first source image (10) and a second source image (12). In order to reduce the memory footprint, the method comprises storing a plurality of rows (301 to 310; 321 to 330) selected in the first source image (11) and in the second source image (12), the stored rows (301 to 310; 321 to 330) being selected according to at least a vertical pitch that varies according to a vertical distance with regard to a reference row (2000; 20002) in each of the first (10) and second (12) source images, the reference rows corresponding to the rows of the first and second source images vertically aligned with said pixel (210); and obtaining the motion vector from at least a part of the stored rows.
