摘要 A magnetic component, or method of making a magnetic component, comprises: a base substrate 301 including a cavity 302 with side walls 320a, 320b connected by a floor and a channel 303 formed to extend between the cavity 302 and the exterior of the base substrate 301. A magnetic core 304 is located in the cavity 302. An insulating layer is applied to the base substrate 301 to cover the cavity 302 and form an insulating substrate enclosing the core 304. Electrical windings are arranged to pass through the substrate and are disposed around the magnetic core 304. The core 304 is secured in the cavity 302 by an adhesive 318. The channel 303 includes at least one obstruction portion 330 to block the egress of the adhesive layer to the outside of the device. The obstruction may be a floor portion with a level which is raised above that of cavity floor and extends between the side walls of the channel 303. The said floor portion possibly being located adjacent the exterior of the substrate. An air gap may be maintained between a toroidal ferrite core 304 and the cavity side walls 320a, 320b. The electrical windings may be formed of conductive traces and vias arranged to include electrically isolate primary and secondary windings.
