[Class 57] A shaft 14 driven by a prime mover and carrying governor weights 11, 12 is extended as a shaft 19 carrying 'a sleeve 28 slidably keyed thereon, the sleeve carrying clutch cones adapted to be selectively engaged by cone clutches 31, 32. The cones are formed with gear teeth 33, 34, the latter meshing with a gear-wheel 41 on a lay shaft carrying a pinion 43 meshing with teeth on a nut 21 regulating the governor loading spring 13. The teeth 33 can also act on this nut in the reverse direction through wheels on a second lay shaft 46 acting on the gear-wheel 41. The clutches are' put in and out of action by remotely controlled solenoids 54, 55 actuating a rocking lever 50 having a forked connection with a collar 51 on the sleeve 28 ; a centralizing spring tends to hold both clutches ont of action. In the extreme positions of the nut 21, stops 60, 61 on the sleeve open the corresponding clutches. Specification 343,206 is referred to.
