ULTRASONIC IMAGE QUALITY IMPROVING METHOD AND ULTRASONIC IMAGING APPARATUS USING THE SAME

A method for improving quality of an ultrasonic image is disclosed. The method for improving quality of an ultrasonic image comprises the steps of: forming an envelope signal by performing envelope detection for an ultrasonic echo signal reflected from an object; generating a horizontal profile indicating the average strength value of pixels having the same lateral position using the envelope signal; calculating the cumulative sum of the horizontal profile according to the lateral position, and generating a lateral gain compensation (LGC) curve using the cumulative sum; reflecting the LGC curve in the envelope signal; and forming an ultrasonic image based on the envelope signal in which the LGC curve is reflected.
