PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the consumption of a hydrogen donor such as methanol without deteriorating the quality of treated water in a sewage treatment method for cleaning sewage containing a human waste and septic tank sludge by a biological nitrification/denitrification method.SOLUTION: The sewage treatment apparatus 1 having a nitrification means 13 and a denitrification means 12 for biological nitrification/denitrification treatment of sewage containing the human waste and/or septic tank sludge includes: alkali treatment means 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 for adding an alkali agent 24 to part of the sewage, which is branched from the sewage before being transported to the nitrification/denitrification treatment; a retention tank 21 for retaining the sewage (alkali-treated liquid) 4 to which the alkali agent 24 has been added; and means 22 and 23 for feeding the alkali-treated liquid 4 after the retention to the denitrification means 12. |
