567,000. Mineral separations. HOLMAN BROS., Ltd., and MICHELL, F. B. Jan. 22, 1943, No. 1148. Drawings to Specification. [Class 82 (ii)] Mineral separations are effected by conditioning the pulp with suitable known reagents for promoting flocculation and effecting flotation separation and with an insoluble oily substance to effect selective oiling of some of the mineral content of the pulp and then subjecting the pulp to vibration on a concentration table under the action of impinging air at sufficient pressure to produce waves. Known frothing agents and coal tar or wood tar creosote may also be added to the pulp before treatment and the air jets are arranged so as to impinge on the surface at positions just above the ripples on the table. In the separation of sulphide minerals from tin or wolfram ores, the ore is conditioned with sulphuric acid to wet the tin or wolfram particles and maintain an acid pulp and a xanthate is added to promote the oiling of the sulphide mineral with creosote and/or petroleum oils. |
