A fluid temperature control assembly 12 in combination with a machine tool 2 and a method of adjusting the temperature of the fluid being supplied to the machine tool is arranged to adjust the temperature of the fluid being supplied to the machine tool to maintain the fluid at a setpoint temperature at a location downstream of the assembly (or other predetermined location) with a high level of accuracy. The assembly includes a fluid inlet 14 for receiving a flow of the fluid at a temperature below the setpoint temperature. A radio frequency (RF) or microwave energy source supplies energy to the fluid as it passes through the assembly to heat the fluid. A fluid outlet 16 is for outputting the fluid to a conduit 20 to carry the fluid to the machine tool. A temperature sensing arrangement 22 is for outputting a temperature signal responsive to the temperature of the fluid at the downstream location. A control arrangement 18 is configured to receive the temperature signal and control the energy source with reference to the temperature signal to heat the fluid so as to maintain the fluid at the setpoint temperature at the downstream location. |
