GAS TURBINE ENGINE COMPRISING A SYSTEM FOR BRAKING A LOW PRESSURE SPOOL

A gas turbine engine (10) with a braking system for the low pressure spool (24a) includes a braking assembly (30) connected to the low pressure spool (24a) and reversibly configurable between an actuated state and an unactuated state. The braking assembly (30) in the unactuated state allows rotation of the low pressure spool (24a) without interference. The braking assembly (30) in the actuated state applies a force opposing the rotation of the low pressure spool (24a). A method of controlling the speed of rotation of a low pressure spool (24a) and a method of controlling the speed of rotation of low and high pressure spools (24a, 24b) are also discussed.
