摘要 A battery load controller 10 for a vehicle, the controller 10 comprising: a battery load sensor 12 that determines one or more loads 26 (e.g. a heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) unit) on a battery 22 of the vehicle; a state of charge (SOC) sensor 14 that determines a state of charge of the battery 22 (e.g. high voltage battery); a torque monitor 16 that determines a torque available to charge the battery 22; a demand sensor 18 that determines one or more demands of the vehicle occupants; and a load manager 20 that manages one or more of the determined one or more loads 26 in dependence on: the determined state of charge; the determined available torque; and the determined one or more demands of the vehicle occupants. An ambient sensor may determine other conditions, such as ambient conditions surrounding the vehicle or window open conditions of the vehicle and the load(s) 26 may be managed in dependence on these conditions. The load(s) 26 may be managed by reducing the load(s) 26 according to a first protocol when the state of charge sensor 14 determines that the state of charge of the battery 22 is below a first threshold value.
