A portable electronic device housing consisting of a single piece conductor (one-piece metal back plate) 201 with a periphery and one or more antenna arms (211, 213) formed in the periphery. The single-piece conductor can also be a metallic back plate. The antenna arms are integral parts of the periphery of the housing. The periphery is having at least a gap between the antenna arms with spacer 301 bridging the gap. The gap can also be filled with non-conductive (i.e. dielectric) material. The dielectric material in the gap can also serve the purpose of surrounding an I/O port. Where four such arms are included, the housing may be configured with two arms at one end of the housing and two arms at the opposite end of the housing. Reinforcement or stiffening ribs 703, 701 may be formed in the housing. |
