PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a light transmissive metal oxide sintered body which narrows minimally the oxygen concentration in re-oxidation step after an HIP treatment and prevents thoroughly re-expansion of minute pores compressed by the HIP treatment.SOLUTION: A method of producing a light transmissive metal oxide sintered body comprises subjecting a sintered body based on a metal oxide to a first hot isotropic press treatment(first HIP) at a heat treatment temperature of 1,100-2,000°C, putting the sintered body of the metal oxide after the first HIP treatment and an oxygen supply source 14 which discharges oxygen or air when heated into a semi-sealed heat-resistant container 13 which has a ventilation hole 13a allowing an external atmosphere gas to flow in, and subjecting the heat-resistant container 13 to a second hot isotropic press treatment(second HIP treatment) in an inert gas atmosphere of an oxygen concentration of lower than 1 vol.% at a heat treatment temperature being lower than the heat treatment temperature of the first HIP treatment and corresponding to the heat treatment temperature at which the metal oxide sintered body 1 is oxidized so as to obtain a light transmissive sintered body. |
