[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] Systems depending on two or more machines.- Traction motors connected between the conductor 2 and " earth " have in parallel therewith a small motor- 'generator set 3, 6, which may be provided with a fly -wheel 7. The motor 3 is series wound or has a predominantly series characteristic and may lie in series with a low voltage battery 5. When the shoe 1 passes over a gap in the conductor rail, the generator 6 provides energy to the traction motor, and the battery 5, if provided, maintains the machine 3 in a motoring condition and so aids the effect of the fly-wheel. According to the Provisional Specification, the machine 3 is shunt wound. |
