Anodising apparatus 101 for selectively anodizing at least a portion 103 of a surface of a component 105, comprising a conformable wicking element 107 configured to absorb a fluid 113 wherein, upon bringing the component 105 into contact with the conformable wicking element 107, the fluid 113 completes an electric circuit 119 between the component 105 and a conductive element 117. The wicking element may draw the fluid from a reservoir of fluid 111, which is preferably an electrolyte. The wicking element may comprise a sheet of porous material that is partially submerged in the fluid, and is preferably in contact with the surface of the component and the conductive element. The conductive element may be a metallic plate or a porous conductive material, with grooves forming a grid pattern on its surface to drain fluid from the wicking element. The apparatus may comprise a second wicking element in contact with the first element. Also claimed is a method of selectively anodising a component surface. |
