An agitator for a surface cleaning apparatus comprises a dowel 114 defining an axis of rotation X and a plurality of disks 156 extending radially from the dowel to a scalloped peripheral edge 158, wherein the plurality of disks 156 lie in oblique planes with respect to the axis of rotation X. The disks 156 include a pair of opposing disk surfaces 164 bridged by the scalloped peripheral edge158 and further include a plurality of nubs 162 projecting from at least one disk surface 164. Also disclosed is an agitator having a plurality of discs 156 that extend obliquely from the dowel 114 and which include a plurality of nubs 162 extending from a disc surface 164 and an agitator having a plurality of discs 156 that include both a scalloped peripheral edge 158 and a plurality of nubs 162 extending from the disc surface 164. |
