PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of realizing highly accurate density correction by improving a dynamic range of density correction.SOLUTION: There is provided an image forming apparatus which includes: a light source; a drum which is a photoreceptor; an optical scanning apparatus in which a light beam emitted from the light source is deflected and scanned in a main scanning direction by deflecting and scanning means and the deflected and scanned light beam is collected on the drum, which is a surface to be scanned, by scanning and imaging means to form a latent image on the drum surface; and an endless belt which is disposed in contact with the drum and on which an image corresponding to the latent image is formed. The image forming apparatus comprises: pattern forming means for forming a pattern for detecting density variation with an image area rate of 50% or more and 85% or less; a cycle detecting sensor for detecting the rotation cycle of the drum; a density sensor for detecting density variation of the pattern for detecting density variation; and correction signal generating means for generating a correction signal for correcting the exposure power of the light source so that the density variation is reduced based on the output of the density sensor. |
