[Class 79 (iii)]' Travelling boots 5, Fig. 1, are provided with frames carrying power driven wheels or endless bands actuated by flexible connections 10, 11 from a motor 1 or battery housed in a satchel carried on the back of the user with an intervening insulating and anti-vibration pad 4 of asbestos on an aluminium plate with springs or a pneumatic cushion. When a petrol motor is used, a worm on its shaft drives worm wheels on the flexible transmission connections' 10, 11 which, through bevel wheels, drives the wheels, or the drums for the endless bands, on the boots. When electric motors are used, these are mounted on the axles 15 of the wheels or drums and the connections 10, 11 are connected to a battery in the satchel. A seat for the user may be associated with the boots 5 and comprises a wheel 20, Fig. 12, mounted in a fork 22 connected by stays 29, 31 with the boots and supporting a seat 24. A steering arm 25 is,attached to the fork, and can be released and turned to lie around the wheel which can be secured at the back of the satchel when not required.</p> |
