Loose fibrous material suitable for use in tampons, bandages, suppositories, &c. is obtained by swelling animal material containing elastin or collagenous fibres, separating the swollen mass into fibres so that a liquid stirrable suspension of substantially elementary fibres is obtained, subjecting the suspension to shrinking agents, drying the separated mass of fibres and teasing or carding out the mass. A gaseous or vaporous shrinking agent, e.g. ammonia or an amine may be employed, the treatment therewith being effected while the swollen material is carried on a sieve. The swollen material may be further broken down by grinding. The final product may be impregnated with curative agents such as styptics or antiseptic agents such as iodine, or may be rendered radio-active by charging with radio-active compounds or irradiation with radium preparations. Specification 422,990 and 423,017, [both in Group IX], are referred to.ALSO:Loose fibrous material suitable for use in tampons, bandages, suppositories, &c. is obtained by swelling animal material containing elastin or collagenous fibres, separating the swollen mass into fibres so that a liquid stirrable suspension of substantially elementary fibres is obtained, subjecting the suspension to shrinking agents, drying the separated mass of fibres and teasing or carding out the mass. Specifications 422,990 and 423,017, [both in Group IX], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises matter relating to the production, from suspensions of the kind described, of spongy products obtained by the dissemination of gas therein. This matter which forms the subject of a Divisional Application does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
|
