The present invention relates to methods for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of a viral infection comprising the steps of (i) providing a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising at least one Guggulsterone or Guggulsterone-like compound or an analogue, metabolite, derivative, pharmaceutically active salt, precursor or pro-drug thereof and caffeine or a salt, analogue, derivative or metabolite thereof and (ii) administering same to a subject in need of treatment. The invention further extends to a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of a viral infection wherein the composition comprises at least one Guggulsterone or Guggulsterone-like compound or an analogue, metabolite, derivative, pharmaceutically active salt, precursor or pro-drug thereof and caffeine or a salt, analogue, derivative or metabolite thereof along with a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, carrier or diluent. In a preferred embodiment, the viral infection is Influenza A and the Guggulsterone is lovaGuggulsterone hydroxy acid salt. |
