PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a converter capable of reducing a ripple current by switching control and capable of downsizing a capacitor.SOLUTION: The converter includes: a preceding-stage converter having a first switching circuit for intermittently outputting current; a capacitor for smoothing the current outputted from the first switching circuit; a succeeding-stage converter having a second switching circuit to which the current smoothed by the capacitor is intermittently inputted; and a control circuit 9. A DC or AC current inputted to the preceding-stage converter is converted and the converted AC or DC current is outputted from the succeeding-stage converter. The control circuit 9 controls switching of the first and second switching circuits so that a time difference is generated between an end point of an output period for outputting current from the first switching circuit and a start point of an input period for inputting current to the second switching circuit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
