PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion device, along with a method of operating the same, capable of reliably burning powdered carbide, by using a fuel gas mainly made of methane as its fuel.SOLUTION: In the combustion device, a combustion burner 1 including a fuel injection pipe 5, a primary air supply pipe 7, a carbide supply pipe 11 for supplying powdered carbide, and a secondary air supply pipe 14, is disposed while facing a combustion chamber opening 3, the fuel injection pipe 5 injects the fuel gas mainly made of methane, the primary air is circularly supplied while circulated around the fuel injection pipe 5, the carbide supply pipe 11 is opened to a tip side in the injecting direction, with respect to the fuel injection pipe 5, the powdered carbide is circularly supplied while circulated around the primary air supply pipe 7, the secondary air is circularly supplied while circulated around the carbide supply pipe 11, and the combustion chamber opening 3 is configured so that its cross-sectional area is gradually reduced from a burner combustion section side toward a combustion chamber 2 side to a minimum diameter section 18, and then gradually enlarged to the combustion chamber 2. The method of operating the combustion device is also provided. |
