A battery charger controlled by a thyristor (e.g. TRIAC, Silicon Controlled Rectifier, SCR) comprising a thyristor controlled rectifier, 3, comprising one or more thyristors, a control system, 8, in connection with the rectifier which controls the output of the battery charger. When a non-linear demand control signal (e.g. AC, alternating current signal) is applied to the thyristor controlled rectifier, the control system applies a correction function to the signal to compensate for the non-linearity. The correction function may be a linearization function. The thristor controlled rectifier may be a thyristor bridge. The control system may be a microprocessor, 7. The battery charger may be powered by a single phase or a three phase input. A method of correcting the output of a thyristor controlled battery charger is also disclosed. |
