A honeycomb filter 20 includes a plurality of porous partition portions 22 each forming a cell 23, the cell 23 being open at one end and closed at the other end and serving as a flow path of an exhaust gas, and a trapping layer 24 for trapping and removing solid components contained in the exhaust gas, the trapping layer 24 being disposed on each of the partition portions 22, wherein the cells include additional-deposition cells 25 on which a larger amount of solid components are deposited than the other cells, and the ratio R (%) of the number of the additional-deposition cells to the total number of cells satisfies 0 (%) < R ‰¤ 20 (%). The additional-deposition cells 25 have lower flow path resistance and a higher fluid flow rate, and therefore a larger amount of solid components tend to be deposited. In regeneration treatment to burn solid components, the amount of heat generation tends to increase with the amount of trapped solid components, and the combustion of the solid components in the additional-deposition cells 25 serves as an ignition point. |
