<p>Tetrafluoroethylene is polymerized by subjecting it to super-atmospheric pressure at a temperature between - 80 DEG and 50 DEG C. Suitable catalysts are benzoyl peroxide, zinc chloride and silver nitrate. A solvent, e.g. methyl alcohol may be present. The product may be moulded into non-corrosive laboratory apparatus and discs for goggles or extruded into fibres for making heat-resistant clothing.</p> |
