584,652. Carpet sweepers. LINDEROTH, E. T. Jan. 17, 1945, No. 1455. Convention date, Jan. 21, 1944, [Class 138 (i)] A carpet sweeper of the kind in which the brushes 4 - are arranged in a dust-collecting receptacle 1 fitted with a cover 2 provided with a pivoted operating-handle 17 is constructed with a locking-device for securing the cover 2 to the receptacle 1 which is controlled by the position of the handle 17 and is so arranged that the cover is unlocked when the handle 17 is moved from the operating position shown in full lines to the raised position. In one form, a hollow post 9, Fig. 1, projecting from the centre of the receptacle is formed with apertures 11, one of which is engaged by a spring-pressed bolt 12. The handle 17 is mounted in a bracket 21 and, when moved counter-clockwise from operating position, a projection 19 attached to the handle engages a projection 20 on an abutment member 16 connected to the bolt and the bolt is withdrawn. The bracket 21 serves as a stop to limit the upward movement of the handle 17. In Fig. 4, a solid post 23 with a continuous groove 27 replaces the post 9, and the locking-member 28 is moved into locking position by a cam projection 31 on the handle which engages an abutment 29 on the member 28. A projection 31 engages an abutment 30 to release the locking device.
|
