PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique which reduces the power consumption of an image display device including a backlight which is divided into a plurality of illumination blocks and turning-on of which can be controlled per illumination block.SOLUTION: Areas on a display panel, which correspond to respective illumination blocks, are defined as divided areas, and illumination blocks corresponding to the divided areas constituting a backlight turning-on region consisting of the same number of divided areas as the number of illumination blocks which can be turned on within such a range that the power consumption of the backlight is equal to or smaller than a threshold are turned on, and the other illumination blocks are turned off, and an image based on an input image signal is displayed in the backlight turning-on region. If there are a plurality of backlight turning-on region candidates, the power consumption of the backlight is acquired for each backlight turning-on region candidate when illumination blocks corresponding to each backlight turning-on region candidate are turned on, and a backlight turning-on region candidate having the lowest power consumption is determined as the backlight turning-on region. |
