The invention relates to an internal combustion engine (1) having multiple cylinders in an in-line arrangement, which cylinders each have at least one first outlet valve and at least one second outlet valve, wherein the first outlet valve and the second outlet valve are connected in terms of flow to an exhaust manifold device (2). In this case, it is provided that the exhaust manifold device (2) has a first exhaust manifold (3, 9) and a second exhaust manifold (4, 20) which is separate therefrom, wherein the first exhaust manifold (3) is connected in terms of flow to the first outlet valve and the second exhaust manifold (4) is connected in terms of flow to the second outlet valve.
