A differential crown gear 101 is supported in a casing 90 by a bearing 180 having an outer radius greater than the inner radius of the crown gear 101. The differential is assembled by translating a crown wheel assembly (80, fig 7A) into a crown wheel cavity (95) through an opening. Crown wheel cavity (95) is between and coaxial with side gear openings 93, (94) which accept side gears (150, 160) that are introduced along the axis 92 until side gear teeth (151, 161) engage with pinion gears (121, 122) of crown wheel assembly 80. The crown wheel bearing 180 is attached to the casing by flange; a pinion mount (1100, fig 3) received in a crown gear (101); and a shaft connected to and extending from a first side gear and connected to a second side gear. The differential casing has a non-structural elastomeric or plastic cover. |
