593,819. Refrigerating. RAILWAY REFRIGERATION CORPORATION. May 18, 1945, No. 12621. Convention date, May 18, 1944. [Class 29] An absorption cooling system for a railway car or other vehicle comprises replaceable pressure tanks 10 containing liquid anhydrous ammonia or a similar expansion medium, which, on opening a hand valve 25, passes through high pressure conduits 18, 16, 15, through a regulating expansion valve 19, which is controlled thermostatically, to cooling coils 6 disposed along the roof of the vehicle, and thence by low pressure conduits 20, 21, 23 to absorbers 11 containing aqueous ammonia or water, a suction pressure control valve 20a controlling the pressure at which the liquid ammonia evaporates, thus determining the temperature of the ammonia gas in the cooling coils 6. In servicing, the spent tanks 10 are renewed, and the strong ammonia solution is drawn from the absorbers 11 into the servicing plant, where the liquid ammonia is distilled from the solution for subsequent use. |
