Mono-olefins and aralkyl hydrocarbons having 2-10 carbon atoms are dehydrogenated by passage with or without steam over a catalyst comprising 50-95.5 per cent. of zirconium oxide, 3-48.5 per cent. of ferric oxide, 0.5-15 per cent. of potassium oxide, and 1-15 per cent. of a stabilizer, which may be an oxide of a metal of the transition series of Group I, II, or III, or a non-acidic oxide of chromium, manganese, cobalt, nickel, thorium, cerium, lead, bismuth, or aluminium.
