PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a configuration simplified by using a small number of detection elements.SOLUTION: One coil 4 that is AC excited is provided at a base part. A target part 3 is slidingly displaced relative to the coil 4 according to the operation of a gear shift lever 1. The target part 3 has a magnetic response member (a magnetic body 3a) provided on a surface facing the coil 4. The shape and pattern of the magnetic response member are determined so that the inductance of the coil, determined based on at least one of the facing area of the magnetic response member 3a with respect to the coil 4 and the gap therebetween, shows each peculiar value corresponding to each position of a plurality of operation positions of the shift lever 1. An output signal responding to the current operation position of the shift lever is generated based on the inductance of the coil 4. Preferably, the coil 4 is incorporated into a self-oscillation circuit 10 and excited by self-oscillation. |
