PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent axial relative movement between a pinion movable body and a lever engaging member and suppress wear of the lever engaging member, in a starter of a type in which the pinion is pushed out toward an engine side via a shift lever.SOLUTION: A starter 1 comprises a lever engaging member 20 mounted on an outer periphery of a pinion movable body 7, and a first stopper 26 and a second stopper 27 for restricting axial movement of the lever engaging member 20. Then, the lever engaging member 20 has a protrusion 35 abutted against the second stopper 27 and deformed in such a way that it is axially pushed and shrunk when the first stopper 26 is assembled. With this arrangement, the pinion movable body 7 and the lever engaging member 20 can be assembled without any axial clearance. Accordingly, no axial relative movement occurs between the pinion movable body 7 and the lever engaging member 20 and thus, wear of the lever engaging member 20 can be suppressed. |
