[Class 38 (i)] A cross-connection strip suitable for telephone distribution systems comprises a pair of terminal blocks 11, 12 in the form of insulating housings, having recesses 20 in each of which a pair of terminals 22, 23 is housed opposite each other so that straight bare wire connections can be made between them. Each terminal pair comprises an insulating, shouldered, pressure-block 21, Fig. 12, which is pressed by a screw 15, threaded in a brass-insert 18a, upon the serrated surfaces of two chamfered contact plates constituting the terminal pairs 22, 23, which have soldering tags 16. The brass-inserts lie in holes 18 in the terminal blocks which are spaced apart by blocks 13, 14. The block 13 is rectangular and hollow and has metal inserts 42 for securing a label plate 43. The block 14 has bosses to fit in recesses 34 in the terminal blocks 11, 12 and grooves which align with holes 29, 30 formed in the blocks 11, 12. The whole assembly is secured together by clamping-rods 33a passing through recesses 34. External connections are made by inserting the opposite ends of leads through the holes 29, 30 of the pairs of contacts after the screws 15 have been slackened. The lead-ends raise the pressure-block 21 and are then clamped between it and the serrated edges by tightening the screw. Contact is made from the assembly on one side by inserting the bare conductors in holes 29, 30 and carrying the lead through the grooves in the block 14, into the other assembly. Modifications include milledheaded screws 15, and arranging the brass-insert 18a below the pressure-block, the screw passing through to lift it.
