A medical equipment support comprises secured tubular member 52 and a tubular support member 54 which is rotatably supported by the secured member 52 via a segment 74 that is inserted through a slit in the secured member 52 into a groove 66 in the support member 54. A safety collar (56, fig 2b) is slid down to cover the segment 74 and is fixed in place by a screw 76. If the segment 74 fails the support member 54 falls until screw 76 collides with an upper surface of groove 68, thus stopping the support member 54 from descending further. During further use the screw 76 enters notch 70 and rotation of the support member 54 is no longer possible which gives a medical practitioner a clear indication that a failure has occurred. In another embodiment the indication of failure is provided by the descent resulting in separation of an electrical slip-ring that prevents any medical equipment being used by the practitioner. |
