PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus detector capable of detecting a focus successfully.SOLUTION: A focus detector comprises: multiple pairs of light-receiving element rows that are provided corresponding to a focus detection position set in an image plane of an optical system; detection means for detecting a displacement amount of the image plane by the optical system from the focus detection position, on the basis of outputs of the pairs of light-receiving element rows; and recognition means for recognizing a specific target image among images by the optical system. The detection means determines priority of the light-receiving row to be used to detect the displacement amount, on the basis of whether or not a position in the image plane of the image recognized by the recognition means overlaps with the position in the image plane of each light-receiving element row constituting the pairs of light-receiving element rows. |
